"NOLA Mama," USA, watercolor on canvas, 11"x14"
This watercolor painting was based on a photo that I took around Halloween, 1997 in New Orleans, Louisiana. I was enamored by this anonymous strong woman in the doorway of a hot building in the strong October sun. It was really her big, beautiful afro that made me smile. I painted this as a meditative contemplation in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina rolled in. I wonder if this woman survived the storm. Where is she now?
