Medico Della Peste
In May 2016, I took a two day workshop on learning how to do encaustic painting at the Brooklyn Art Space, Trestle Projects. I made four very different encaustic paintings where I experimented in learning new techniques and approaches to this unusual medium. This painting of a sinister looking plague doctor incorporated a photocopied transfer image that I have used before in my mask series that you can see in my surface pattern designs. This creepy bird man mask that was worn by doctors during the Bubonic Plague in Italy. The beak area would be stuffed with material thought to prevent the spread of airborne diseases.
